Basil Gimlet Recipe with Seven Three Distilling Co. in New Orleans

Gentilly Basil Gimlet

Try a Gentilly Basil Gimlet with Seven Three Distilling Co. in New Orleans

New Orleans knows its way around an expertly crafted cocktail. Our friends, Rose Robinson and the SevenThree Distilling Co krewe, shared one of their favorites takes on a gimlet, the perfect drink to cool you down as the weather heats up. Take it away, Rose! Let the good times roll!

“The Gentilly Basil Gimlet is the perfect make-at-home cocktail for warm weather. Gentilly Gin is richly botanical and pairs beautifully with fresh basil or herbs from your quarantine garden. The cocktail only uses four ingredients, so it's perfect for stay-at-home evenings. We love gimlets because they use a classic base that has so many variations. You don't need complex liqueurs to get creative, and you can make entirely new drinks by adding ingredients you already have in your fridge or garden. In times when you want to be resourceful and creative with your cocktails, the gimlet base is indispensable.”

If You Take out the Basil, You Have the Recipe for a Classic Gimlet. From There, You can Experiment with Any Part of That Ratio to Change Up the Drink, Such As

  • Swap Gentilly Gin for Black Pearl Rum for a classic daiquiri
  • Opt for St Roch Vodka for a vodka gimlet or use our St Roch Cucumber Infused Vodka for a phenomenal summer cocktail
  • Experiment by adding your favorite herbs, as we did here with the Gentilly Basil Gimlet, or a splash of fruit juice. Some types of bitters can deepen the flavor too.
  • Try for a different type of sweetener, like honey syrup or an infused simple syrup.
  • Adjust the ratio of spirit/citrus/sweet to fit your specific taste.
  • Daiquiris and gimlets are shaken in a shaker tin, but if you don't have a shaker tin, there's no need to rush to the store.

For a Slightly Different Cocktail

  • Quarter half a lime and muddle it with two teaspoons of sugar in the bottom of a rocks glass. (Don't have a muddler? Improvise by using the back of a spoon.)
  • Add ice, stir, and top with 2 oz of Gentilly Gin, Black Pearl Rum, or Marigny Moonshine.
  • Add club soda if you want a lighter drink.
