The Best Outdoor Dining in Portland
Where to eat and drink outside in Portland.
Portland is a city of seasons, and we love to embrace the outdoors whenever possible. That means that there are myriad restaurants with outdoor seating in Portland. Here are our favorite places to plant yourself on a patio, sip a local brew, and enjoy regional cuisine.
Tusk
Eater consistently ranks this Middle Eastern-inspired Burnside restaurant as one of Portland’s essential eateries. Executive chef and co-owner Sam Smith has close ties with some of Oregon’s finest farmers, and it shows up in his fresh, complex flavors. The patio’s perfect, understated elegance allows Smith’s food to shine. Tusk: 2448 E Burnside St; 503-894-8082
¿Por Qué No?
Grab a seat under colorful umbrellas in front of this no-frills Mexican hot spot from restaurateur Bryan Steelman on Mississippi Ave. It’s a perfect spot for enjoy tacos—we love the juicy barbacoas—and refreshing margaritas. ¿Por Qué No?: 3524 N Mississippi Ave; 503-467-4149
Basecamp Brewing Company
Open since 2012, Basecamp has become one of the city’s most popular craft breweries, with a lively, rock-climbing-themed brewhouse and taproom in the Buckman neighborhood. Head there for a laid-back vibe in the outdoor patio, and soak in that PNW lifestyle while enjoying Basecamp’s signature lagers and ales and order food from several food trucks. Basecamp Brewing Company: 930 SE Oak St; 503-477-7479
Produce Row
Live music, American eats, whiskey, 24 taps, and a giant patio: the only ingredients needed for a perfect Portland night. Go for the relaxed vibes under the stars, stay for the beer cheese macaroni and the bourbon barbecue wings. Produce Row: 101, 204 SE Oak St; 503-232-8355
Martha’s Roof Deck at Revolution Hall
Atop a former high school—and now one of the city’s leading live music and film venues—Revolution Hall’s Roof Deck has gorgeous views of downtown from Buckman. We love the brats served with house-made sauerkraut. Martha’s: 1300 SE Stark St; 503-288-3895
Skyline Tavern
Named 2016 Bar of the Year in Portland, the Skyline Tavern has saloon aesthetics and high quality beer, burgers, and hot dogs. There’s also an egalitarian air to the entire space. Case in point: the patio has grills available for anyone’s use, ping pong tables, and ample seating. Don’t expect skyline views, though. The restaurant is on the other side of Forest Park from downtown Portland, but its woodsy, rustic vibe in the wilderness is well worth the 20-minute drive. Skyline Tavern: 8031 NW Skyline Blvd; 503-286-4788
